Adopt A Marine

Some of us, and many more of our grandparents, understand the hardship felt when loved ones are apart from us. These feelings are no more poignant than during the holidays. Thoughts of loved ones are never far.

This holiday season, we have someone who is away from us. Our nation has asked that Aaron Bournes serve in Iraq. Many of us have come to know Aaron through his girlfriend, Sandy Kurz. He's attended numerous Dance Group functions and has quickly accepted our customs and traditions.

Aaron is 22 and a Corporal with the Marines. His hometown is Eules, Texas. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton before shipping out to Falluja, Iraq in September. Aaron is a diesel mechanic but is also called upon to convoy men and material as needed. This is his second tour of duty in the Middle East. Last year he was called upon to support troops from Kuwait. Here's the good news - his current tour is over in March and he's scheduled to be honorably discharged in June. Aaron's career plan is to become a police officer when he returns home.

Aaron's duties preclude regular contact with family and Sandy. Even when the opportunities arises, there are only 40 computer terminals for 40,000 troops. But that shouldn't stop us from sending little notes to him to let him know that we're thinking of him and hope for his safe return. So .... let's "Adopt A Marine", and there's none better than Aaron.

I've set up a "diary" to allow us to send Aaron messages. It doesn't have to be a long message and it doesn't matter than you may not know Aaron. The goal is to let Aaron know that he's missed and to keep his spirits up. It's easy!
